The “Virgin Birth”
One miracle in the Bible is possibly mocked and derided more by skeptics, and even considered too fanciful even within seminaries, than any other. That miracle is the “virgin birth”.
Because it is that shocking, it is shockingly deep and complex. Is the “virgin birth” the most paradoxical event in the Bible? It includes:
*God’s Sovereign will combined Human Free will.
*Purity of virginity with sinlessness and Shame of association with sinfulness.
*Son of God encased as Son of Man.
*The Physical act of grace to Mary foreshadowing the Spiritual act of grace through Jesus.
*The Richness of Jesus in Heaven and The Poverty of Jesus on Earth.
*The Birth of Jesus from Mary foreshadowing the Rebirth through the Resurrection of Jesus from the death.
*The Birth of God’s Son foreshadowing the Rebirths of sons and daughters of God.
Notice how much we share in the paradoxical nature of that “virgin birth”. Shouldn’t our lives likewise being paradoxical?
