Matthew 12 – The Example of David

| December 30, 2012

Reading this complicated text, one easily sees the reasoning behind the example of the Priests having to “work” on the Sabbath. It is the example of David (1 Samuel 21) that makes us scratch our heads. So the question is why? 1. Personal – Apparently the Pharisees approved of the example of David and it […]

Deuteronomy 31:6,7,23; Joshua 1:6,7,9,18; 10:25; 2 Samuel 10:12; 1 Chronicles 19:13; 22:19; 28:20; 2 Chronicles 32:7 – Be Strong and Courageous

| December 30, 2012

Biblical courage has at least three characteristics: 1) God Given – not self-derived; 2) God Strengthened – there when needed; 3) God Controlled – does not produce pride, instead it produces humility.

Perryism – Genius is unorthodoxy that works; Insanity is unorthodoxy that fails; Eccentric is unorthodoxy that is rich; Weird is unorthodoxy that is poor. Grace is unorthodoxy that saves.

| December 27, 2012

“For I am not ashamed of the gospel” (Romans 1:16) does not mean we should not be ashamed that we are Christians, but that we should not be ashamed by the gospel message, how God saves people through the gospel, by grace.

Matthew 2:11 – Myrrh

| December 24, 2012

When Jesus was born, myrrh was given as a gift (Mt 2.11). When Jesus was crucified, they tried to give Him a drink mixed with myrrh (Mk 15.23). When Jesus died, myrrh was used to bury Him (Jn 19.39). Even in the birth of Jesus we see foreshadowed His death.

Perryism – Jesus was born to die so we can die to be born.

Our death and birth can […]

2 Timothy 3:16-4:4 – Attitudes in Studying

| December 24, 2012

When coming to conclusions about the Bible seemingly no one else has, which one are you: 1) honest; 2) delusional; 3) selfishly sinful; 4) ignorant; 5) still studying. This is a question I have to continually ask myself. Number 5 should always be true even if we conclude honestly (#1) what we have not previously believed […]

Perryism – If in the beginning was the Word with God, then who needs to be with us in all of our beginnings?

| December 23, 2012

John 1:1-2 (HCSB) (1)  In the beginning was the Word,  and the Word was with God,  and the Word was God.  (2)  He was with God in the beginning.

1 Peter 5:1-5 – Why Local Church Autonomy?

| December 23, 2012

Why local church autonomy? Implied within the command to elders to shepherd the flock among them is church autonomy (1 Pt 5.1-3). Add that to the silence of the scriptures and we learn God’s design that each church is autonomous, separated from other local congregations in government. This is a Biblical concept that is lost […]
