Pride vs Self-Respect

Pride vs Self-respect
The difference between pride and self-respect is pride will do anything for others to think highly of them, while self-respect will do anything to think rightly of themselves. If we confuse the two we become prideful in spiritual things and gain worldly respect in eternally worthless things. Since the world doesn’t follow God, self-respect is the opposite of pride since it is humility. Pride is happiness while self-respect is holiness. Notice how each way of the world is countered with a way from God:
1. Submit to God – Resist the Devil
2. The Devil will flee fro you – You draw near to God and God will draw near to you.
3. Cleanse your hands sinners – Purify your hearts.
4. Be miserable, mourn, and weep (in repentance) – Turn laughter to mourning and joy to gloom.
5. Humble (lower) yourself (not pride) – God will exalt you (raise)
“Therefore, submit to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you. Draw near to God, and he will draw near to you. Cleanse your hands, sinners, and purify your hearts, you double-minded. Be miserable and mourn and weep. Let your laughter be turned to mourning and your joy to gloom. Humble yourselves before the Lord, and he will exalt you.” (CSB’17 James 4:7-10).
Can we think to ourself with enough self-respect to search if we’ve been prideful?
