How has American ruined the gospel? One way is, while the gospel calls us away from ourselves, the modern “gospel” (which is not another), calls on God to grant our deepest wishes. The modern “gospel” says, “if you renounce everything, God will give you everything.” God becomes a means to an end, a vending machine, and Santa Claus. The true gospel is not about God giving all these things; it is about God getting all of us while He gets all the glory.
