Good News at a Funeral

What does a funeral have in common with the gospel? The Greek word for Blessed as in praising is eulogētos – lit., good words. The Greek word for Gospel is euangelion – lit., good news.
The difference between these is, we say good words ABOUT someone; but we say good news FOR someone.
Our English word eulogy comes from the Greek word for “blessed” or “praise”. There is no greater “good words” to say ABOUT someone at their funeral than they accepted the good news FOR themselves while living.
The good news allows us to say good words about both God and one another. Even at a funeral.
