Funeral – English, Poetry, Christ
Performed a funeral today and found the following to which I added “In Christ we say”:
1. In English we say: I miss you
2. In Poetry we say: Without you there is a hollow space inside me that will never be filled.
3. In Christ we say: (As Paul said to the church in Ephesus who never expected to see him again in this life) “And now I commit you to God and to the word of his grace, which is able to build you up and to give you an inheritance among all who are sanctified (Acts 20:32).
1. In English we say: I still love you
2. In Poetry we say: I cannot find away to untangle my heart from yours.
3. In Christ we say: (As John wrote about Jesus’s thoughts before washing the apostles’ feet and leaving for the cross) Jesus knew that his hour had come to depart from this world to the Father. Having loved his own who were in the world, he loved them to the end (John 13:1)
1. In English we say: I’m sorry
2. In Poetry we say: I bleed for the pain I caused you as if the wounds were my own
3. In Christ we say: (As Peter wrote about how our wounds were bled for by Jesus) He himself bore our sins in his body on the tree; so that, having died to sins, we might live for righteousness. By his wounds you have been healed (1 Peter 2:24)
1. In English we say: Goodbye
2. In Poetry we say: I’ll keep you tucked away in my heart for the rest of my life
3. In Christ we say: (As Paul wrote to the Thessalonians who were suffering) Now may the God of peace himself sanctify you completely (“wholly attaining the end, reaching the intended goal”). And may your whole (without lack or deficiency, complete and whole in all its parts and thus conveys the idea of “with integrity”) spirit, soul, and body be kept sound and blameless at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ. He who calls you is faithful; he will do it (1 Thessalonians 5:23-24)
