From One Extreme To Another

From one extreme to another. After the close of the inspired NT writings, Christians thought baptism so important they added many steps that had to be accomplished for emphasis before baptism: fasting, exorcism, exsufflation (blowing on their faces), standing on sackcloth or hair shirts, even removing clothing to symbolize putting off the old man. Today the other extreme is taught. Baptism is put off until an acceptable number want it, and is called a work and deemed unnecessary under the banner of “faith only.” If you want to know if something is important to God – and baptism for forgiveness of sins is commanded (Acts 2:38) – just look for ways that Satan has corrupted it, even by using opposite extremes.
