Biblical truth standing on its spiritual head to get our eternal attention.

Have You Been Touched By Jesus?

When Jesus healed someone, including from death itself (Luke 7:11-15), He almost always touched the person (John 9:6) or at least spoke (John 5:8). Early writings by Christians (Tertullian, Ambrose, etc.) rightfully made comparisons between these physical healings and our spiritual healing received in baptism. One of the common references was to the blind man in John 9 whom Jesus anointed his eyes with clay and spittle, and then told him to wash in the pool of Siloam.
Jesus touching or speaking gave authentication of His approval and involvement. How is this seen in baptism?
In Jesus’ Great Commission speech, baptism is “in the name of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit”. In Acts Peter and Paul baptized “in the name of [the Lord] Jesus” (2:38; 19:5). In both Jesus is involved and approves. Have you been touched by Jesus in baptism?
