Isaiah 42:6; 49:8 – The Covenant of Jesus

Jesus does not make a covenant with sinners written on paper. No agreement is agreed upon and then signed with ink. The covenant is not written in leather bound paper. JESUS IS THE COVENANT!
This is more than semantics when I say Jesus does not make a covenant with people, but rather Jesus is the covenant made with people. A covenant historically was an agreement made with blood, hence the meaning is literally “a cutting”. Animals were the typical choice. But Jesus said when beginning the new Passover,
• “Then He took the cup, gave thanks, and gave it to them, saying, “Drink from it, all of you. This is My blood of the covenant, which is poured out for many for the forgiveness of sins (Mt.26:27-28). For Jesus, the covenant is written in and with His blood because Jesus is the covenant.
Notice how Isaiah twice makes this point:
• “I am the LORD. I have called you for a righteous purpose, and I will hold you by your hand. I will watch over you, and I will appoint you to be a covenant for the people and a light to the nations,” (CSB Isaiah 42:6)
• “This is what the LORD says: I will answer you in a time of favor, and I will help you in the day of salvation. I will keep you, and I will appoint you to be a covenant for the people, to restore the land, to make them possess the desolate inheritances,” (CSB Isaiah 49:8)
The covenant of Jesus is Jesus is our covenant with God. If Jesus takes it this personally, how should we?
