1 Kings 22:38 NASB They washed the chariot by the pool of Samaria, and the dogs licked up his blood (now the harlots bathed themselves there), according to the word of the LORD which He spoke.
1 Kings 22:38 HCSB Then someone washed the chariot at the pool of Samaria. The dogs licked up his blood, and the prostitutes bathed in it, according to the word of the LORD that He had spoken.
1 Kings 22:38 ESV And they washed the chariot by the pool of Samaria, and the dogs licked up his blood, and the prostitutes washed themselves in it, according to the word of the LORD that he had spoken.
The main difference here between the NASB and the HCSB and ESV is that the NASB does not imply that the prostitutes actually bathed in the pool while it contained Ahab’s blood. If the HCSB and ESV are correct, then the scene becomes vastly filthier.
