Exodus 1,2 – Become Everything Satan Fears

The son became everything the grandfather feared. We have no record of their previous relationship before that day that changed everything. The son was adopted by the grandfather’s daughter. The grandfather’s reaction to that one day suggests life was not familial in their house. I’m suggesting the grandson was tolerated, not accepted.  The grandfather was Pharaoh. The grandson was Moses.
Pharaoh ordered all the male infants murdered. Baby Moses escaped by the cleverness of his mother, and twice females thwarted the king’s plan – midwives then his daughter. Pharaoh thought he had to protect himself from the males so God used women. Pharaoh thought he had to protect himself from the Israelites so God used an Egyptian, one from his family.  The story is filled divine irony.
Moses grew up and on one particular day protected an Israelite who had been abused by an Egyptian.  Unfortunately, it ended in death for the abuser. A prince kills one of his subjects? So what? Kings and princes are above the law. Yet Moses became afraid for his life! Why?
The text suggests Moses became what Pharaoh always feared. In Exodus 1 Pharaoh feared the Israelites would revolt against the Egyptians. In Exodus 2 Moses does exactly what Pharaoh feared.
When we become sinners, we become adopted with Satan becoming our father (John 8:44). Be like Moses. Protect the innocent. Uplift the downtrodden. Choose to serve God. Become what Satan fears.
