Luke and Matthew’s Genealogy and Women

Luke’s gospel account is known for his attention to society’s downtrodden, specifically women. And yet here is a surprise – Luke’s genealogy of Jesus does not list any woman including Mary; while Matthew’s list has four (Mt.1:3,5-6).
Looking at Luke he does give more attention to Mary in the narratives of Jesus’ conception and childhood. Matthew doesn’t give nearly as much information about Mary.
But if this is going to be more than just an observation on information, what application can we make? Two people can do the same thing in different ways and with different emphases. Just because they do it differently doesn’t make our way better. There is a touch of self-importance if we continually insist, “That’s not how I would say it” and then proceed to rephrase it. And just because someone does “whatever” more often shouldn’t take away from when someone else does it less (you can make your own applications).
