Jude 1:8-9 – Be Like Mike

“In the same way these people — relying on their dreams — defile their flesh, reject authority, and slander glorious ones. Yet when Michael the archangel was disputing with the devil in an argument about Moses’s body, he did not dare utter a slanderous condemnation against him but said, “The Lord rebuke you!”” (CSB’17 Jude 1:8-9)
The example of Michael involves defiled flesh (Moses dead body), authority (Satan who rejected God’s authority, and Michael who accepted it), and glorious ones (of which Satan is fallen and Michael is standing).
An uncomfortable lesson for us is, are we too quick to reject God’s authority by assuming we can condemn to hell only those God has an authority to? Unless there is a verse which specifically condemns we must be careful not to infer judgment when God has not declared it. Even Michael simply said, “the Lord rebuke you”.
