John 6 – Free Food
People eat free food miraculously provided (6:8-11), and in the morning discover the source (Jesus) is gone (6:24). So they travel across the sea for more free food (6:26). Isn’t it amazing how hard people will work for free food? Reminds me of all the hours spent on the side of the road begging. Working hard doing nothing for something free. “I assure you: You are looking for Me, not because you saw the signs, but because you ate the loaves and were filled.” I believe this was a test not only for the apostles (6:6), but for the people too, and they failed (6:26-27). Jesus never used food to draw people to His Father. “Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds from the mouth of God.”
