1 Peter 2:21-25 – When the Lord’s Supper is a Lifestyle

When the Lord’s Supper is a Lifestyle
When embarking on this memorial meal, I submit to you that when we partake of the emblems, we are doing more than remembering Christ who “bore our sins in his body” (1 Peter 2:24). We are called to imitate Christ.
Go back to 2:21 – “for you were called to this, because Christ also suffered for you, leaving you an example, that you should follow in his steps.”
Notice again 2:24 – “so that, having died to sins, we might live for righteousness”.
See the impact of 2:24 – “By his wounds you have been healed.”
We are healed by the wounds of Jesus in our resurrection, spiritually and in the end bodily. As Jesus is healed through His resurrection, we are made whole through His renewed life. The Lord’s supper is not just about death, it is about life – being born again through the resurrection now, and on the last day.
This Lord’s supper becomes more meaningful when we suffer evil when doing right; and endure the temptation to return to unrighteous ways. Endurance in righteousness is the example of Jesus. In imitating Jesus, when persevering the wrongs of others, we are living the bread and body, the fruit of the vine and blood. Therefore, this memorial is more than a Sunday event. It is a lifestyle.
