Ephesians 2:10 – Are We Doing What We Were Created To Do?

Businesses can change their whole purpose as to why they were founded. Some do this to survive, others from various outside forces, and with some, it leads to their demise.

Examples of change can be found in the YMCA which originally meant Young Men’s Christian Association. For years now females have belonged. Recently the Boy Scouts opened their ranks to girls. Both were founded with one purpose but changed.

Another example is more serious. Paul says, “For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared ahead of time for us to do” (Ephesians 2:10 CSB). The word translated “created” means “from nothing” as in the Genesis creation. This is New Creation. But it has another meaning too, which is “founded, as in a city.”

Put together Christians were created out of nothing by God’s power, founded with God’s intent to do God’s works, to be God’s workmanship. In original creation, Adam and Eve failed God’s purpose.

Ephesians is filled with founding reasons for why God’s new creation should do His good works. How are we fulfilling God’s founding purpose for our existence? If we change it to survive society’s pressures, that will lead to failing our eternal purpose.
