5 Questions showing Foundations of Egalitarianism and Complementarianism

Egalitarianism vs Complementarianism?

The following questions are purposely not asserting a position. Instead they are laying down the foundation of what the issues are. This is done by forming a beginning point for understanding and discussion. If we don’t know the foundation of a contrary position, or even our own, it makes arguments for and against weaker.

1. In creation, did God make Man and Woman ontologically (i.e. Worth) equal? If so, what are the implications in both church and family? A study of SAMENESS.

2. In creation, did God make Man and Woman economically/functionally (i.e. Work) different by assigning different relationship roles? If so, what are the roles? What are the implications in both church and family? A study of DIFFERENCES.

3. If in creation, God did not assign different relationship roles, did sin change the relationship between husband and wife so that he and she try to dominate on the other (Discussion of Genesis 3:16 desire and rule)? Did sin cause this: 1) by a direct curse from God; 2) or as an indirect consequence of sin in the world?

4. If, in the curse or consequence of sin, the relationship roles changed, did Christ restore the pre-fall, non-hierarchical, creation roles in both church and family (Discussion of Galatians 3:28)?

5. Are roles within the church and family determined not by gender but only by gifts?
