Proof of Necessary Inference

Anyone who claims not to believe in “necessary inference” is not married, or doesn’t know how women communicate. They will claim if God wanted us to do something, He would just say it plainly. Now, let’s apply that to marriage.

WIFE – “Is that your underwear in the middle of the floor?”
HUSBAND – “Yes.”

Husband continues to do what he was doing. The wife stares at her husband.

WIFE – “Aren’t you going to pick up your underwear?”
HUSBAND – “I didn’t know you wanted me to pick it up. I just thought you wanted to know if it was mine.”
WIFE – “Would you please pick it up?”
HUSBAND – “OK, why didn’t you just say that to begin with?”

I guarantee you, if you are married, you have heard a conversation very much like the above, if not exactly it word for word! Now every wife knows when she asked her husband, “Is that your underwear in the middle of the floor?”, she was asking him to pick it up. After a few decades of marriage, we men learn that is how women communicate.

So what did we learn about communication? Necessary inference and implication is common, normal, communication that even men use when it suits them. The better we know people, the better we learn how they communicate. So spend time in God’s word, He too uses common, normal, communication, because He is desiring to communicate with us.
