Biblical truth standing on its spiritual head to get our eternal attention.

It’s About God!

“God don’t make no junk”. Despite the double which reverses the meaning, I understand and accept the premise. Counseling the emotionally troubled saying they have value being made in the image of God, is also worthwhile and true. But….
“For God loved the world in this way: He gave his one and only Son, so that everyone who believes in him will not perish but have eternal life.” (CSB John 3:16). This verse, among others, proves something beyond what they are often used to prove. The point is not how valuable we are, but how valued we are. “Beauty is in the eye of the beholder” means the beholder is responsible for the value. But….
We are getting closer, but still might miss the point. “God is love”, as John says several times in 1 John. We are valuable because God is love, not because we are beautiful or lovable. God is love. But….
If we stop at “God is love”, and we are his image, therefore we are saved due to love, we are still short of another, deeper, purpose. We still might be focused too much on us. So….
“This is why you are great, Lord GOD. There is no one like you, and there is no God besides you, as all we have heard confirms. And who is like your people Israel? God came to one nation on earth in order to redeem a people for himself, to make a name for himself, and to perform for them great and awesome acts, driving out nations and their gods before your people you redeemed for yourself from Egypt. You established your people Israel to be your own people forever, and you, LORD, have become their God.” (CSB 2 Samuel 7:22-24). You still see an exaltation of God’s chosen here, but we see how even though God’s chosen is exalted, it is not for the sake of God’s chosen! It is for God!
• “redeem a people for himself”
• “to make a name for himself”
• “your people you redeemed for yourself”
• “to be your own people”
Like David and Israel, today God chooses us “for himself.” People, it’s, that is we, are about God!
