Biblical truth standing on its spiritual head to get our eternal attention.

I Broke The Law

I broke the law recently. Broke it in 5 states. Didn’t know I was, which doesn’t mean I was innocent; but it does mean I was honestly wrong.
This reminds me of a common problem when doing evangelism. When someone discovers the Bible teaches baptism is when God grants His grace, that is, when we are saved (Mark 16:16; Acts 2:38; et al); their thoughts turn to loved ones already dead, and never scripturally baptized: “Are you saying my grandmother is in Hell?!” they ask incredulously.
The story goes of a butcher shop who, upon inspection, it was discovered their scales were weighing heavy. People paid more but got less. The owner defended himself saying these were the same scales his father used: “Are you calling my father a dishonest businessman?” The inspector calmly said, “I’m not saying anything about your father. But now that you know, you will be dishonest if you don’t change your scales.”
Whether ignorance will be judged differently than willful disobedience is God’s call. At least the ignorant are not being dishonest before God. We must act on what we know.
Are you waiting to see what law I broke? When I bought my motorcycle in Mississippi and rode it home to North Carolina, I didn’t notice (and the seller didn’t tell me), he had removed the license plate. Five states. No plate. And thankfully no ticket. But once I found out….
