Biblical truth standing on its spiritual head to get our eternal attention.

False Gospel #1

If there is a true gospel, then there will be false gospels (Galatians 1).
False Gospel #1 – If the true gospel is Jesus is king, that means the commonly accepted “faith only” of modern preaching is unbiblical because it denies the gospel of Jesus as both King to be obeyed and Savior to believe in and believe to obey!
Neglecting Jesus as King to be obeyed is not the only flawed methodology that leads to not making disciples. Heed this historical warning:
“Making the conversion process automatic — and I’m doing my best to be dead-level honest in saying that — is disastrous for the vitality of faith and church life. This kind of gospel can deconstruct a local church, and I would finger this issue as one of the, if not the, origins of the demise of the church in European cultures.” (Scot McKnight, The King Jesus Gospel)
This would be compared to our churches baptizing so many young, young, ones who know little more than quoting Acts 2:38 “for forgiveness of sins”. They don’t know the gospel which includes Jesus as king! They want forgiveness but not submission. That’s proved when their life doesn’t change.
If your theology preaches faith but not obedience, then you don’t have all the gospel. Jesus is a savior to believe in, but he is also a king to be obeyed. Jesus preached the gospel long before he preached about his death, burial and resurrection: “Now Jesus began to go all over Galilee, teaching in their synagogues, preaching the good news of the kingdom….” (CSB’17 Matthew 4:23). Kingdom means rule. Is Jesus your ruler? That means submission and obedience. He can’t be just your savior because that is not all there is to the gospel!
