Job 38ff – Learning From Animals

In talking to Job, God uses animals as lessons for humans (Job 38ff). Today we can still learn. Surprising I have learned from my dogs more about fearing God (Deuteronomy 6:2). In short I have learned the proper response to fearing a master.
We are babysitting my parents’ dog. She is a recent rescue and has a habit of escaping. Although she is adjusting and healing even more (because our dogs show her we can be trusted), she is exhibiting a certain unpleasant behavior. Probably due to her insecurity she has forgotten being “house-broken”.
When this happens we raise our voices in disapproval. What happened next helped me learn better “the fear of the Lord.” When we expressed our disappointment to the visiting dog, our dogs hear the commotion but are not quite sure what is going on. So in fear of their master…they run to us! Wow! When we are close to God, fear causes us to run to God, not run away. Why? Because our fear is founded in trust. Do we trust God enough to fear Him and run to Him when we fail?
