Romans 3:24 – Justification is a Gift

“To be `justified’ is to be pronounced free of guilt.  It was a legal term, used in court of law.  When a man was tried, all evidence heard, and the conclusion reached that he was innocent, he would be pronounced not guilty.  He would be justified.’  The word (sic.) `justified’ and `righteous’ are from the same basic Greek word.  Only the innocent can be `justified’ on the basis of law.  We are guilty; law is not the remedy.” (Robert Turner, Sermons On Grace, p.77)

“…justification being the legal and formal acquittal from guilt by God as Judge, the pronouncement of the sinner as righteous, who believes on the Lord Jesus Christ.” (Vine, p.625)
