John 19:25-27 – When All We Can Do Is Be There

Mary couldn’t do anything to stop Jesus’ suffering; but she could make sure He didn’t suffer alone (John 19:25-27). As Henri Nouwen said, “No man can stay alive if no one is waiting for him” (The Wounded Healer). We all know someone who is suffering. Like Mary, we can’t stop their suffering. Like Mary, we can be there and make sure they don’t suffer alone. Even on the cross, Jesus knew His mother was with Him.
