John 18 – From Defender to Denier
Among the soldiers, possibly 200 with weapons, Peter draws a sword and attacks to defend his Lord. Among a slave girl and others warming themselves by a fire, Peter draws his empty breath to deny he even knows Jesus. Sadly, that quickly, within an hour or so, he goes from defender to denier. Temptation, when everything including life is on the line, can be easier to overcome than temptation sitting by a fire, when the greatest danger is personal repudiation. Like Peter, today, we face the greater danger because the danger is not so great.
