3 Focal Points of New Christianity

These are 3 main focus points of early Christians that shaped their survival:
1. Discipleship – Being like our Rabbi in knowledge and lifestyle is more some desire. “To whom else can we go?” (John 6:68-69) Discipleship is following His way through the Holy Spirit.
2. Commitment – “By this people will know you are my disciples, your love for one another” (John 13:35). “One another” passages show the church is to be a community. Commitment is devoted in His way through the Holy Spirit.
3. Faith – This is more than a vague belief in God. “To these He gave the right to become children of God” John 1:12); beingbeinga child means being like. God is vibrant in His actions. To early Christians, belief meant action based on trust. Faith is acting His way through the Holy Spirit.
Think how needed these were because:
1) Many were making a fresh start in lifestyle from sin to holiness. They needed a new paradigm.
2) Many were poor needing charity (an old translation of love). Others needed the encouragement that comes from acceptance. They needed a new family due to separation because of their past or nationality.
3) Many had seperated religion from everyday life. They needed a new kind of faith by learning to live how Jesus worshipped.
The church cannot survive without the Father, Son, Holy Spirit, and each other. How important are these to us?
