Playing with Words – Believe

Did you know our English word “believe” is etymologically related to “love”? When we “believe” in God, Jesus, and the Holy Spirit, we “be-love” them. Therefore, to believe is an act of love.
Playing around more with the word “believing”…. “Believing” begins with “be” and ends with “ing”. When we are “BE-lieving-ING” we are “BE-ING”. Believing allows us to “be”, and “being” defines who are and what we are doing.
Do you love Jesus? If you do, you believe Jesus and believe in Jesus. Loving and believing leads to doing. Are you being like Jesus? Then you are BEhaving like Jesus.
What’s the point of this? Even when playing around with the words believe and believing, we learn that actions speak louder than words but only because actions define our words. Or as James teaches, “faith without works is dead” (James 2:24).
