Praying 1 Thessalonians 4:9-10 – I Love and Hate Knowing Myself

I Love and Hate Knowing Myself (A Prayer Commentary on 1st Thessalonians)
TEXT: “About brotherly love: You don’t need me to write you because you yourselves are taught by God to love one another. In fact, you are doing this toward all the brothers an d sisters in the entire region of Macedonia. But we encourage you, brothers and sisters, to do this even more,” (CSB’17 1 Thessalonians 4:9-10)
DEVOTIONAL: I have a love- hate relationship with these verses, and others akin to them in 1 Thessalonians. I love how positive Paul is and how positive they are. I hate asking myself – “What do I need to not be told to do because: 1) God has already taught me; 2) I am already doing it; 3) I am known throughout a large area for doing this action?”
That’s a lot of pressure when I do an honest assessment! When it comes to self-honesty, I have a love-hate relationship with that. Get busy examining yourself. You’ll hate it and love what God can teach you about yourself.
PRAYER: Dear God who sees all, I need you to open to me the dark places I keep hidden. I cannot see myself without you because I am afraid. Teach me so others will know. Through your gift and example of love I pray, amen.
