Praying 1 Thessalonians 3:8 – Waiting to Breathe Again (Healthy, Growing, Communities)

Praying 1 Thessalonians 3:8 for a healthy growing community – Waiting to Breathe Again
PRAYER: You are the Patient One, God, waiting to send Jesus’ until more repent. I have loved ones that I repeatedly wait for also. It hurts to breathe, as I wait. May they turn to you again and stand firm. In Jesus is my hope, amen.
TEXT: “For now we live, if you stand firm in the Lord.” (CSB 1 Thessalonians 3:8)
DEVOTIONAL: It almost sounds like a bad joke waiting to happend: “When they served sushi, I ate it with baited breath”. Except, “baited” is “bated”, and the phrase is “I waited with bated breath.” Literally, “bated” means, “holding one’s breath” and is usually said ironically, in that one is not eager for the news they are waiting for. We also say about good news which we doubt will happen, “Don’t hold your breath.”
Paul said, “For now we live” which definitionally means here, “we can breathe again”. While waiting on the news if the Thessalonians were “standing firm”, Paul is saying, “We didn’t dare to even breathe as we waited”. Who are you waiting on with hopeful breath?
