1 Thessalonians 3:1 – A Praying Commentary – Better to Be Left Behind than to Leave Behind

A Praying Commentary – 1 Thessalonians 3:1,5 – Better to Be Left Behind than to Leave Behind
PRAYER: Dear God, let us examine ourselves to see if we care enough about others to check on them before it is too late and the tempter has won them over. May they know our concerns are about them, and not about numbers or control. Through Jesus, Amen.
TEXT: Therefore, when we could no longer stand it, we thought it was better to be left alone in Athens…. For this reason, when I could no longer stand it, I also sent him to find out about your faith, fearing that had temper had tempted you and that our labor might be for nothing. (CSB, 1 Thessalonians 3:1,5)
DEVOTIONAL: I’m afraid there is more “I can’t stand that person” than “I can’t stand not knowing how that person is doing spiritually”. Can you image how often Paul would have used the tool of email and phones to check on people? Timothy is his “e-male”, so he “sends” Timothy to check on their friends. Paul stays behind but is not willing to leave behind the fate and faith of his Thessalonian friends.
