1 Peter 1:18-19 – Memorial Day Thought
American soldiers died so we can live as we freely please. The Son of God freely died so we can live as God pleases. The word solider means to serve with pay, going back to the Latin solidus, a Roman gold coin. Jesus died by the Romans and Jews to be our payment, more precious than silver or gold. I thank God for American soldiers, the only armed force in the world that consistently serves to free other nations. I thank God for Jesus even more, the only sacrifice from another world sent here to free not nations, but any individual including me. Now let us serve to please God and one another freely.
