Hooking Up

Promiscuous sex is not a new sin. Tamar, Rahab, and the Corinthians all show this lustful weakness. Prostitution is not the oldest profession despite what some say. While the sin is not new, language describing it will always be expanding.

For example, Rabab today would not be called a harlot. She’d be a hooker. Thankfully, she changed and decided to make a “profession” for Yahweh! Grace and mercy bring peace and forgiveness!

But notice this linguistic connection – causal sex today is called “hooking up”. Hookers get paid. Hooking up is free. Except sometimes it is expected, which means there are cultural pressures. Ever hear what is expected nowadays on the 3rd date?

Do you think those who so easily get “hook ups” would consider themselves “hookers”? Maybe not, because getting paid technically makes you a “pro”; while doing the same thing for free makes you an “amateur”!

Be like Rabab and the Corinthians – confess and profess:
1 Corinthians 6:9-11 (CSB) 9) Don’t you know that the unrighteous will not inherit God’s kingdom? Do not be deceived: No sexually immoral people, idolaters, adulterers, or males who have sex with males,
10) no thieves, greedy people, drunkards, verbally abusive people, or swindlers will inherit God’s kingdom.11) And some of you used to be like this. But you were washed, you were sanctified, you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and by the Spirit of our God.
