5 Doctrinal Truths from Symbols of the Lord’s Supper

For something so simple and plain, there is depth beyond human creativity.
1. Incarnation – The bread (body) and fruit of the vine (blood) show the frailty of the human body which encased the divine spirit of Jesus.
2. Resurrection – Sunday is more than convenient, it reinforces the day Jesus rose.
3. Unity/Ecclesiology – One bread and one cup shared by all Christians everywhere. This is why we cant take away or add or else the symbolism of unity is destroyed.
4. Eschatology – The symbols are used until He comes again, which shows not only that Jesus came, but He’s alive and coming again.
5. Historical Reality – All the above show Jesus’s life, death, resurrection (life again) are based in fact.
Simple but powerful, and hopefully more meaningful, with more importance to not change.
CSB’17 1Cor 11:23-26: “For I received from the Lord what I also passed on to you: On the night when he was betrayed, the Lord Jesus took bread, and when he had given thanks, broke it, and said, “This is my body, which is for you. Do this in remembrance of me.” In the same way also he took the cup, after supper, and said, “This cup is the new covenant in my blood. Do this, as often as you drink it, in remembrance of me.” For as often as you eat this bread and drink the cup, you proclaim the Lord’s death until he comes.”
