Biblical truth standing on its spiritual head to get our eternal attention.

Acts 5:30 – NASB vs. HCSB vs. ESV

Acts 5:30 NASB  “The God of our fathers raised up Jesus, whom you had put to death by hanging Him on a cross.

Acts 5:30 HCSB  The God of our fathers raised up Jesus, whom you had murdered by hanging Him on a tree.

Acts 5:30 ESV  The God of our fathers raised Jesus, whom you killed by hanging him on a tree.

The most literal translation here (i.e., NASB) is not the most literal. There is another word for cross (stauros). The word here though (xulon) is correctly translated “tree” by the HCSB and the ESV. See also Acts 10:39.
