Ecclesiastes – A Time to Listen to Others; and a Time to Listen to Yourself

“There is a time to listen to others, and a time to listen to yourself.” Not quite from Ecclesiastes, but I think the Ecclesiastical Koholeth would approve. Driving down the road I saw a black motorcycle with a brown seat…not a common combination. It looked awesome! Years ago I had a chance to buy a brown seat for my black bike. Someone said, “That’ll look weird.” Unconventionally, I went with convention. Divine wisdom teaches there is a time to listen to others: when it involves right verses wrong; when its experience over ignorance; when it’s a person’s feelings or our selfishness. And there is a time to listen to yourself when the only real issue is self-expression from personal opinion. Yes we can regret not listening to others, but regret is harder to live with when you realize the deeper regret is a lack of self-confidence.
