Biblical truth standing on its spiritual head to get our eternal attention.

Genesis 1-2; Luke 1-2 – In the Beginning Old Creation and New Creation In the Beginning

In the story of the birth of Christ (Luke 1-2) we have: 1) Darkness because the shepherds are out at night. 2) Light breaking the darkness because the glory of the Lord shines as the angels announce the birth of Christ to the shepherds. 3) Animals being taken care of because of the shepherds; plus the birth taking place in a stable wherein Jesus is layed in a feeding trough. 4) The Holy Spirit will come and overshadow Mary. 5) Jesus’ life beginning in a miraculous way because a virgin conceives and gives birth.

Looking at this again as shown above, does this remind you of another story? 1) “Now the earth was formless and empty and darkness covered surface.” 2) Then God said “Let there be light.” And there was light. 3) Then God said, “Rule the fish of the sea, the birds of the sky, and everything that crawls in it.” And Adam names all the animals. 4) The Spirit of God hovers over the surface of the deep. 5) Then God said, “Let us make man in our likeness and in our image”…and God breathed the breath of life into his nostrils and he became a living being.

The similarities between original creation (Genesis 1-2) and the birth of Jesus may be just a coincidence. Those do happen even within Holy writ. Yet consider this: The birth of Jesus is the beginning of New Creation’s story. Plus, although Old Creation and New Creation are very Pauline concepts, why wouldn’t Paul’s friend and traveling companion share those thoughts as well?
