2 Timothy 2:24 – The Sky Is Blue

“The sky is blue.” Seeing that, what would your reactions be? No doubt you know someone who, if you said, “The sky is blue” would start an argument. Many months I wrote in a particular forum, “the sky is blue” with no other comments or explanation. Some were confused, but others understood the point. It seems sometimes, some people, just want to argue and disagree even with “the sky is blue.”

How could they argue against such an obvious truth? Easy, because quibbling is always easy.

  • We could easily argue because the sky is not always blue.
  • We could easily argue because blue is so generic and not as specific as other blue colors (i.e., azure blue).
  • We could easily argue because the sky is often blue plus other colors such as white (i.e., clouds).
  • We could easily argue because by getting extremely technical suggests that the sky does not actually have a color, but is either a reflection or refraction of color.

Just about anything can be argued against, exceptions found, hypotheses suggested and whatnot. Usually we are not against what is said, but who said it. A different person could say the same thing, “The sky is blue” and we would respond, “Yes it is a beautiful day.” But often all the arguing misses the point of what is said. All the arguing also misses the point of what our attitude should be. Personally, I think argumentative people are just unhappy and don’t know it. And while all that is going on, guess what? The sky is still blue.
