2 Corinthians 6:14-18 – Two Extremes

Two extremes, at least, exist among the preachers and believers in the first century. If they existed then, they exist now. Both are extremes from each other, and compromises with others. The first extreme is too strict; the second is too loose. The first is too many rules; the second is too many freedoms. The first is compromised by Judaizing doctrines; the second is compromised with Idolatrous practices. In both letters to the Corinthians, and elsewhere, Paul has to warn about bringing in both the old Jewish religious world; and the old pagan religious world. These extremes are as extreme as God and Satan. The hedge that Satan built around the Law is as dangerous as turning grace into licentiousness. Beware those who have a law for everything; and no law for anything. Today, and every “today” until there are no more days, we fight this same battle. There are those who spout rules, and those who spout freedom. God has both and neither; as does the god of this world. Living by God’s rules and freedoms; and separating ourselves from Satan’s rules and freedoms is battle of every age, every mind, and every soul, and is on every page of the Bible.
