Guardians Not of the Galaxy
Each morning when I leave for work, I guard my family by locking the front door. Those inside are worth protecting. The first three times the word “guardian” occurs, it might not appear the same word, depending on the translation. The first three guardians – not of the galaxy – were Adam, the Cherubim, and Cain. Two were failures.
Adam was appointed a guardian of Eden’s garden (Genesis 2:24). This was his home and became Eve’s. The serpent snuck in and became an intruder. Adam was with Eve along with the dangerous liar and did nothing (Genesis 3:6). Sin resulted.
The Cherubim were appointed as guardian of the tree of life (Genesis 3:24). They succeeded.
The last guardian refuses to acknowledge his first-born responsibilities. He asks in the KJV, “Am I my brother’s keeper?” The answer was supposed to be yes.
Now reconsider these three. Adam guarded a garden which was his home. The Cherubim could not allow the walking dead access, not only because of God’s charge, but because God knew it was not good for the first humans to live forever in a cursed state. Cain not only failed himself in his sacrifice, he failed himself as a brother, and failed his brother, mother, and father. Families ultimately pay the price when we don’t protect what is valuable.
A guardian only guards what and who is important. Over what and who has God given you guardian duties? Apparently they are precious to God also.
