Why is the disgusting actions of Lot’s daughters recorded in the Bible?
1. It teaches the Moabites and Ammonites were related to Israel. Could they become idolatrous like their “cousins”? Extended families can show an unwanted future.
Stay devoted.
2. It warns fathers who are righteous (2 Peter 2), that what they can be around might not adversely affect them but could destroy their children. Financial advancement may not be worth it.
Stay watchful.
3. It teaches, don’t sacrifice your children to culture or else they will adopt that culture or even want payback against their families. Lot’s offering of his daughters to the citizens due to the hospitality customs of his day should have never outweighed his responsibility to protect those born under his roof.
Stay in God’s Culture.
4. It demonstrates desperate times DO NOT call for sinful desperate actions. These daughters did not need to make the same error as Sarah and Abraham with Hagar. God’s timing is not always easily seen.
Stay patient.
