Genesis 1 – Separation

Tuesday’s Thought – Separation. Re-reading the creation account, I remembered how separation was a reoccurring feature (Genesis 1):
Day 1 – Separation of light and dark, night and day.
Day 2 – Separation of waters on the earth from the sky by an expanse.
Day 3 – Separation of water from dry land.
Day 4 – Separation by the sun, moon, and stars to dividing night and day.
Day 6 – Separation of woman from man creating husband and wife who are not to separate (Genesis 2; Matthew 19:5-6).
God later separates Noah and his family from the flood’s destruction. God then separates Abraham from his idolatrous family and homeland, to create a separate nation called Israel. To them, God gave a covenant sign of separation, circumcision.
In the NT Christ sanctifies – which means separates – His bride (Ephesians 5:25-27) with the washing of water by the word. Once again God separates via water. From Old Creation to New Creation, God sets forth separation as a theme of new beginnings: “Therefore, come out from among them and be separate, says the Lord; do not touch any unclean thing, and I will welcome you” (2 Corinthians 6:17 CSB).
