Proverbs 15:1 – Overreacting to Overreacting

Ever notice how easy it is to overreact to someone overreacting? They shout so we shout them down. They call names so we call names to show them name calling is hurtful. We might even couch our insult with super-righteous: “If I were like you I could call you a (blank); but I’m not like that.” And then we gloat; we showed them how ugly overreacting is. Yes, we SHOWED them. A gentle answer turns away wrath (Pro.15:1); and even if it doesn’t, remember what the next verse says: The tongue of the wise makes knowledge attractive; but the mouth of fools blurts out foolishness (Pro.15:2).
