Jeremiah 2:4 – Hear the Word of Yahweh

If Judaism has one verse which encapsulates their belief system, it would be “The Shema” which begins “Hear Oh, Israel” (Deut.6:4). “The Shema” is based upon the Hebrew word for “hear/shama. While translated different ways, the most common way the NASB translates shama throughout the OT is “hear” or “heard”.

Jeremiah, a prophet of God, is constantly calling people to hear. Just looking at statistics, Jeremiah uses the word shama more than any OT writer. The only chapters wherein shama is not used are: 1,15,24,39,45,47,52. Jeremiah uses the word in 168 verses, which is 16% of the total use in the OT.

Jeremiah wanted everyone to know they need to hear God. Let’s all hear Jeremiah’s call to hear God.
