Biblical truth standing on its spiritual head to get our eternal attention.

Jeremiah 14:10 – NASB vs. HCSB vs. ESV

NASB – Thus says the LORD to this people, “Even so they have loved to wander; they have not kept their feet in check. Therefore the LORD does not accept them; now He will remember their iniquity and call their sins to account.”

HCSB – This is what the LORD says concerning these people: Truly they love to wander; they never rest their feet. So the LORD does not accept them. Now He will remember their guilt and punish their sins.

ESV – Thus says the LORD concerning this people: “They have loved to wander thus; they have not restrained their feet; therefore the LORD does not accept them; now he will remember their iniquity and punish their sins.”

The NASB is unnecessarily wordy. “Kept..in check” is their translation of chasak which the ESV translates very literally, “restrained.” The HCSB is succinct, but not as accurate. “Rest” which can be positive, does not carry the negative meaning of “restrained.”
