Biblical truth standing on its spiritual head to get our eternal attention.

Genesis 1 – Separation; Organization; Multiplication

Since there are often layers of truth, meaning, and purpose behind God’s revelation, we should try to uncover those layers. Genesis 1 is about many things including: 1) Separation; 2) Organization; 3) Multiplication. God separates day and night; water and ground. God organizes the lights, vegetation, and animals into their proper places and roles. God calls on the vegetation and animals to multiply. Then we see this take place again in “adam.”

  1. Separation – (27) So God created man in His own image; He created him in the image of God; He created them male and female.
  2. Organization – (28b) Rule the fish of the sea, the birds of the sky, and every creature that crawls on the earth.”
  3. Multiplication – (38a) God blessed them, and God said to them, “Be fruitful, multiply, fill the earth

When we come to the Last Adam and His bride we see the same three actions. Christians are separated from the world. We are organized into God’s kingdom through the gifts of the Holy Spirit. Christians are called to multiply. Such a layer of truth as this does tend to show Genesis 1-2 is more than likely a literal account because it is typology. Equally important is we make application. Have we been added to God’s church? Are we exercising the Holy Spirit’s gifts? Are we making disciples?
