Politics and Religion – When I preached in a small town that had both a “Church of Christ” and a “Christian Church,” there was a strange phenomenon: If you belonged to the “Church of Christ,” you were Republican; if you belonged to the “Christian Church,” you were Democrat. I wonder how much our family history influences our choices whether politically or religiously. I also wonder if how we approach religion and politics is influenced by the same mindset. I wonder if politics are too closely connected to religion and religion too closely to politics. These are just some ramblings, possibly meaningless, but put out for your consideration, as we celebrate our nation’s beginning and recent failures.
