Acts 1-4 – Acts is Reliving Jesus

In our Coffeehouse Evangelism, the visitor wanted to study Acts 1-4. I would like to share with you two thoughts from that study based on Acts 1:1 – “all that Jesus BEGAN to do or teach”.
I – Acts 1-4 repeat Jesus’s life (as does much of Acts): 1 – The “Lord” chooses an apostle; 2 – The kingdom is no longer just “near”, it is here as – Jesus is on the throne; 3 – Peter and John perform a miracle continuing Jesus”s confirmation; 4 – Two of Jesus’s apostles are arrested by the Jewish leaders and standing before the Sanhedrin. Sound familiar?
II – Luke 1:35 makes clear the Holy Spirit is recognized as he writes “the Holy Spirit will come upon you. The power of the Most High will overshadow you.” The result is her child will be called “the Son of God.” Acts 2 fulfills the Joel 2 prophecy of the Holy Spirit being poured out. Both beginings start with the Holy Spirit.
Luke is about Jesus in His physical body. Acts is about Jesus in His spiritual body. What Acts 1:1 and these points of literary structure show us is we are continuing to do and teach what Jesus began. That’s exciting!
