Acts 4:13 – Preaching Credentials

I got denounced on a forum as a “self-styled scholar.” I have learned to some that others can’t be intelligent unless they cite others for making their point. I love education and would never denounce someone with or without formal degrees. Recently I heard a man cry in his prayer, which meant more to me than a scholarly argument. Years ago I was working on my Masters, but stated to the head of the department education was not required to be intelligent, and cited my wife as evidence. The college professor told me he didn’t think in “churches of Christ” it was allowed for a wife to be smarter than her husband. Elders sometimes require preachers with degrees and some preachers prominently promote theirs. Education, the fear of it, or the lack of it, should never be the the most obvious distinction of a gospel preacher. Whether others can tell we have been with Jesus should be the most important (Acts 4:13). May we all walk that walk.
